Donald Tusk was branded ‘delusional’ after calling Europe the best place in the world
The EU chief sparked fury from pro-Brexit campaigners after he called on his fellow Poles to “love the European Union”.
Speaking to a Polish magazine on Wednesday, the President of the European Council blasted “malcontent” voices of anti-EU dissent coming out of his country.
Mr Tusk said: “The European Union will never be different. Let’s hurry to love it as long as we have it.”
But the former Prime Minister of Poland has now been attacked over his “delusional comments” by a top Leave campaign group.
Jayne Adye, director of cross-party grassroots campaign group Get Britain Out, told Express.co.uk: “Poland and the Poles are realising their membership of the EU is not working for them and they are increasingly realising they would be better off on their own.
“Several other countries within the bloc are starting to feel the same way.
“Donald Tusk is delusional if he truly believes the EU is the best place in the world.”
According to Mr Tusk, the European Union is doing a good job of keeping Europe, peaceful, prospering and safe from war while the rest of the world watches in awe.
The EU boss underlined that everything else that does not follow the EU model, is “clearly worse and less safe”.
But he admitted that the EU’s grip on Europe comes with a financial burden.
Donald Tusk is delusional if he truly believes the EU is the best place in the world
He said: “I am aware – more than anyone else – that at times not all of this functions, how much time it consumes, how complicated it is.
“From the point of view of native (Polish) malcontents this creation isn’t perfect, but from the point of view of the rest of the world, Europe is still considered the best place on Earth.
“Everything else that is different to it is clearly worse and less safe. But it does come with a cost.”

Donald Tusk called on his fellow Poles to ‘hurry up and love Europe’
However Ms Adye has now said that with Brexit at hand, the EU is struggling to keep its coffers lined with gold.
She said: “The EU is now trying to scrabble around to substitute the funds they will miss from the UK’s membership fees – the latest suggestions are increased charges for visitors’ visas to EU countries – they will clearly miss the UK’s money!
“The EU is using every delaying tactic in the book to try and stop or delay Brexit.
“Who would want high unemployment and huge prices because of the overvalued Euro and over-regulation.”

Ms Adye suggested that now is the time for Poland to join Britain in leaving the EU as quickly as possible.
She added: “The sooner we get Britain out of the EU, the better!”
Mr Tusk was also ridiculed earlier on Thursday by Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minster Konrad Szymański, who called his statements about Poland “absurd”.
In the Wednesday interview, Mr Tusk said he had “no doubts” that Poland’s conservative Government was heading towards an EU exit.
But Mr Szymański furiously rebuked the statement, underlining that his country was open to constructive dialogue with the Union.
The Polish Minister said: “This is an absurd thesis. It looks as if he is praying for this to come true, because then it would be better for him to perform a political function in this country.”
The strong sentiments on both sides of the argument come after controversial judicial reforms in Poland sparked months of bickering between Warsaw and Brussels.
Mr Tusk said the whole of Europe is shocked with Poland’s behaviour, less than a month after EU bosses Jean-Claude Juncker and Frans Timmermans attempted to strip Poland of its EU voting rights with Article 7.
