Video footage of the Honduras earthquake showed a kitchen in Cancun being shaken as the earthquake resonated across the region.
Lights can be seen shaking during the short and sharp aftermath of the Honduras earthquake.
The NWS Pacific Warning Center in a statement said: “Based on all available data… hazardous tsunami waves are forecast for some coasts.
“Persons located in the threatened coastal areas should stay alert for information and follow instructions from national and local authorities.”
The Honduras earthquake prompted an advisory for the “potential threat” for the islands of Puerto Rico, the British and US Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Cuba and Nicaragua.

The advisory was extended to Mexico, Panama, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Belize after the US Geological Survey (USGS) initially recorded the quake as a 7.6 magnitude, when it struck 44km east of Great Swan Island, Honduras.
Juan Jose Reyes, Director of Early Warning Systems of the Honduran disaster prevention agency COPECO, urged people from low-lying coastal areas to seek refuge, particularly if the tide suddenly is drawn out.
He said: “If you notice that the sea disappears, you have to go to a high place.
“Pay attention to the alerts, to the authorities.”
Rodrigo Anaya Rodriguez was in a hammock inside his house near the popular tourist site Bacalar Lake on Mexico’s Caribbean coast when he felt three tremors.
He said: “It felt like a bulldozer was driving past. It didn’t last long but was very violent.”
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center initially warned that tsunami waves up to 1 meter above tide level could hit parts of Honduras, Belize and Puerto Rico along with the US and British Virgin Islands.
About two hours after the quake, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the threat had passed, withdrawing all tsunami advisories connected with the Honduras earthquake.
