Nintendo Switch smashes Wii U numbers, setting stage for PS4 and Xbox One 2018 showdown

It has now been confirmed that the Nintendo Switch has officially sold more consoles in Japan than the Wii U managed in its entire lifetime.

The major news was confirmed today by Famitsu, with the latest sales data suggesting that Switch now has 3,407,158 sales to its name, next to the Wii U’s 3,301,555.

That’s some big news for a company that needed to do as much as possible to leave their past disappointments behind them.

There were always going to be questions raised over a console launch like that of the Switch but this latest data should put to rest any concerns that it could still flop like the Nintendo Wii U.

To put it into perspective, the Nintendo Switch has been available to buy for the past 10 months.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

The Wii U, meanwhile, has been on shelves for the past 5 years, highlighting how the console wasn’t able to keep up with the PS4 and Xbox One.

The same won’t be said of the Nintendo Switch, which is now in a great place to take on the other two major consoles in 2018.

Latest Media Crates data has also revealed that the Nintendo Switch has surpassed the first-year sales of the PS2 in Japan.

The PS2 sold 3,016,622 units sold in its first year, while the Switch sold 3,258,083 units during 2017.

This means the Nintendo Switch is now the fastest selling home console in the Land of the Rising Sun.

In a recent interview, Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima said he wants the Switch to sell more than 20million units in the next financial year.

This comes after the Japanese gaming giant revised their sales forecast for the Switch to 16.7million by March 2018.

This is more than the PS2 – the best selling console of all-time – sold during its first full year on sale.

In its first 12 months, the PS2 sold 10.61million units worldwide.

While firmly categorised as a failed successor to the Wii, the Wii U still had some top titles.

And along with those games, such as Super Mario Maker and Splatoon, came a quirky social platform.

The Miiverse social network may not be arriving on the Nintendo Switch, but it hasn’t been forgotten.

Having officially shut down, it appears that fans have been keeping back-ups for such an occasion.

Having found a niche with certain online culture buffs, it seems a lot of their work has been saved.

It has now been confirmed by the Archive Team and the Internet Archive that nearly 17 terabytes of drawings and screenshots can be revisited.

Work and posts from over 8 million Miiverse users still exist and will likely outlive the platform for quite some time.

The Archiverse can be found on the web and includes some pretty cool information on what is stored their.
