The Wii U games list may have pretty much ended, but that doesn’t mean people don’t still have a soft spot for the console.
While firmly categorised as a failed successor to the Wii, the Wii U still had some top titles.
And along with those games, such as Super Mario Maker and Splatoon, came a quirky social platform.
The Miiverse social network may not be arriving on the Nintendo Switch, but it hasn’t been forgotten.
Having officially shut down, it appears that fans have been keeping back-ups for such an occasion.

vCard.red is a free platform for creating a mobile-friendly digital business cards. You can easily create a vCard and generate a QR code for it, allowing others to scan and save your contact details instantly.
The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.
Having found a niche with certain online culture buffs, it seems a lot of their work has been saved.
It has now been confirmed by the Archive Team and the Internet Archive that nearly 17 terabytes of drawings and screenshots can be revisited.
Work and posts from over 8 million Miiverse users still exist and will likely outlive the platform for quite some time.
The Archiverse can be found on the web and includes some pretty cool information on what is stored their.
This includes:
- 133,003,599 Posts
- 75,955,135 Screenshots
- 72,135,190 Drawings
- 30,600,505 Avatars
- 8,278,693 User Profiles
- 2,238,830 Deleted and Hidden Posts
- 5,128 Game Communities
It should be noted that Archiverse is open source, meaning that it can be mirrored and used to store for your own database needs.
More from the team on the big internet project: “Archiverse represents everything Archive Team grabbed during the Miiverse shutdown.
“While we attempted to download and store as much as possible, given the amount of time to do the archive and the crawling we had to do to get what we ended up with, there is no way to know precisely how much we missed.
“From Miiverse administrators deleting users and posts, users who hid their profiles, new communities created after the shutdown notice went out, to stability issues with Miiverse itself, many things would stop a complete archive of the site.
“Of course, Nintendo themselves did have the complete databases and assets available. If they still do, they could donate them to make this genuinely complete. As it stands, this is the best we could do.”
There’s also talk of new Wii U games ports coming to the Nintendo Switch in the near future.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was one of the last big launches of 2017, and there’s a chance that more titles from the series’ past could make a comeback on the Switch.
Monolith Soft president Tesuya Takahashi has revealed that it could be possible that we see Xenoblade Chronicles X make the jump from Nintendo Wii U to Switch.
Takahashi told 4Gamer.net that he would like to see a Switch version arrive at some point in the future but suggested that nothing was in motion right now.
“Personally speaking, there are times I feel like playing Xenoblade Chronicles X and think about how nice it would be to play it on the Nintendo Switch,” Takahashi told 4gamer.net.
“Of course that will depend on demand and such, but I will think about it while discussing future plans with Nintendo.”
So it appears that while no Chronicles X project is currently underway, user demand for more Xenoblade adventures could make it happen.
