Van Dijk questioned

07:22: Virgil van Dijk isn’t the fix-all solution to Liverpool’s defensive issues.

That’s the verdict of ex-pro Alejandro Moreno, who spoke out after the Reds’ 1-0 win over Everton.

“What I would say is that you’ve got Virgil van Dijk right,” he told ESPN FC.

“He’s supposed to be a solution to your problems and it still was 1-0 and Liverpool were controlling the game and somehow they allowed a team like Everton, who didn’t do much in the match, back into the game.

“So the issues are still there, this is one important piece.

“But it doesn’t solve all the issues for Liverpool defensively.”

Fresh Mahrez claims

06:30: Liverpool do NOT want Riyad Mahrez to replace Barcelona-bound Philippe Coutinho at Anfield, according to reports.

The Algeria international has been back to his brilliant best since Claude Puel took charge of Leicester earlier this season.

And last night rumours swirled that he’s all set for Liverpool and will undergo a medical as they look to replace Coutinho.

Sky Sports say that speculation is false though, with the Reds apparently not interested in the 26-year-old at all.

Coutinho stopping Liverpool deal

05:40: Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho looks set to complete a mega £142m move to Barcelona today.

And the latest reports suggest that deal is preventing the Reds from sanctioning another transfer – albeit a loan.

The Mail on Sunday claim Liverpool were planning to loan out top prospect Ben Woodburn to Sunderland.

However, the chances of that happening have reduced with Coutinho set to swap Anfield for the Nou Camp.

Mohamed Salah’s injury is apparently having an impact on Woodburn heading to the Stadium of Light too.
