Slender Man inspired 12-year old girls to STAB a classmate 19 times: Should it be banned?

A few weeks ago a young girl in Winsonsin was sentenced to up to 25 years in a psychiatric institution for her role in stabbing another little girl 19 times.

Alissa Weier was just 12 years old at the time. Along with Morgan Geyser she lured Peyton Leutner into the woods where they tried to kill their classmate.

At the trial they claimed that they had done it to stop the Slender Man from killing their own families, but they were also motivated by a desire to become his “proxies.”

The girl said they believed that if they pleased him, the fictional character would reward them and take them to his magic castle to live there forever.

Weir was accused of holding Leutner down while Geyser stabbed her repeatedly. During the trial last October it was revealed that Geyser had written in a notebook: “I love killing people.”

The case shocked America but many feel the girls were too young to know what they were doing. Weier’s family accepted she needed treatment but asked she should only be held until she was 25. Now 15, she could be institutionalised until she is 37 since the sentence is backdated to the year of the crime itself.

Incredibly Leutner survived the attack but Weier’s father has denounced the new movie based on the internet craze.

Bill Weier said: “It’s absurd they want to make a movie like this. It’s popularising a tragedy is what it’s doing. I’m not surprised but in my opinion it’s extremely distasteful.

“All we’re doing is extending the pain all three of these families have gone through.”

Geyser has not yet been sentenced but CBS News reorted: “In a deal with prosecutors, Geyser, who did the stabbing, pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide with the agreement that she isn’t criminally responsible and shouldn’t go to prison.”

The first trailer for the new movie was released this week, but The Slender Man has been an internet craze since 2009.
