Moussa Dembele: Jim White delivers huge transfer update on Celtic striker

It was reported on Christmas Day that Celtic had accepted an £18million offer from Brighton for Dembele.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a stellar debut season in the Scottish Premiership last term with some of Europe’s top clubs after his signature.

But he has struggled to emulate his form this campaign, scoring just eight times and has not been an automatic starter for Brendan Rodgers.

While reports suggesting a deal with Brighton seem premature, rumours have continued to speculate whether Dembele will leave in January.

However, White insists a deal may not be as close to being done after all.

He tweeted: “the south coast club “yet to have a conversation” with @celticfc about Moussa Dembele.”

Brighton are the third lowest scorers in the Premier League this season, netting just 15 in 20 games.

Glenn Murray leads the team with five goals but Chris Hughton is desperate to add more firepower to his side to avoid relegation.

Rodgers admitted earlier this week that Dembele could leave Celtic Park under the right circumstances.

“Of course there will be interest because the players are doing really well,” Rodgers said.

“Listen, it’s the same ideas, we don’t want to lose any players. However, if something comes in it goes back to that issue morally.

“If a player can earn five times as much as what he’s on now then it is very difficult to stop him, especially if you get a fee for a player.”
