Forget Pokemon Go Gen 3 news, Niantic just released this major update

The big Pokemon Go Gen 3 launch brought with it another major feature to the game, Weather Effects.

These help provide boosts and stronger Pokemon types, depending on the local conditions.

However, Niantic also included a Weather Warning system that would switch off these new bonuses if things were seen to be getting a little too rough outside.

This was apparently based on whatever local weather warnings were being issued, meaning that some Trainers were missing out on bonuses, when they weren’t in any danger.

But in a new Pokemon update this week, it appears that Niantic are rolling out an additional feature for fans to use to avoid this issues.

vCard QR Code

vCard.red is a free platform for creating a mobile-friendly digital business cards. You can easily create a vCard and generate a QR code for it, allowing others to scan and save your contact details instantly.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

Reports on Reddit are confirming that Trainers are now able to to tell the game they are safe, which will reportedly leave the bonuses on via the Weather Effects system.

The “I am safe” button will be especially good news for those in location which have a lot more conditions that are deemed “extreme” by apps.

“I figured they’d do something like this after all those complaints, and I’m happy!” one user wrote.

“Environment Canada tends to announce storms several days before they hit, so I just had my weather spawns blocked for four full days up to and including Christmas. Nice to know that won’t happen again!

“Totally agree – in my area, we could have winter storm warnings an entire day ahead of even potential weather (so much fun living in the area where the moist/warmer southern air and cold northern air meet, and it depends on exactly where they meet that results in either a great big storm or absolutely nothing…), so I am very happy not to be dealing with “extreme” weather while it’s sunny out!” another posted.

The current Weather conditions and boosted types as confirmed by Niantic:

Weather conditions – Boosted types

  • Sunny/clear – Grass, Fire, Ground
  • Rainy – Water, Electric, Bug
  • Partly cloudy – Normal, Rock
  • Cloudy – Fairy, Fighting, Poison
  • Windy – Flying, Dragon, Psychic
  • Snow – Ice, Steel
  • Fog – Dark, Ghost

As confirmed by Niantic earlier this year, certain Pokémon now appear more frequently in weather conditions that correspond to their type.

For example, you’re more likely to see a Water-type Pokémon, like Squirtle or Magikarp, during rainfall.

These Pokémon also tend to have higher CP and perform better in battle, and as an added bonus, you will receive extra Stardust when you catch a Pokemon that is boosted by the current weather conditions.

Niantic recently updated Pokemon Go with 20 new Gen 3 types, all of which were made available as part of the ongoing Holiday event.

The new Weather Effects changes could make it easier for fans to catch more of the best Gen 3 types, currently available in their local area.
