Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger hits back at Jose Mourinho for whinging about Man Utd transfers

Jose Mourinho sensationally complained about not having enough transfer funds at Manchester United following their 2-2 draw with Burnley on Boxing Day.

The Portuguese claimed he could not compete with the likes of Manchester City, despite wracking up spending in the region of £280million since taking charge.

And Arsene Wenger had no sympathy for the United boss and reminded him he has spent the last 21 years at Arsenal competing with a smaller budget than his rivals.

“I have been in that position for 21 years so I can’t start to complain now,” the Frenchman said.

“There have always been three or four teams richer than I am. I’ve learned to cope with that.

“We deal with our own situation as well as we can.

“Man City, Chelsea and Man United are all richer than us. You have to find ways to be successful.”

Wenger’s comments were in response to claims Mourinho made following United’s draw with Burnley in which he seemed to be jealous of City’s financial clout.

When it was put to him that he had been afforded close to £300m to spend on players over the last two seasons, he replied: “It’s not enough, it’s not enough.

“The price for the big clubs is different from the other clubs, so the big, historical clubs are normally punished in the market for that history.

“Tottenham is not a club with the same history as us. Arsenal doesn’t have the responsibility to win it [Premier League], Chelsea doesn’t have the responsibility to win it.

“Manchester City buy the full-backs for the price of the strikers, so when you speak about big football clubs, you are speaking about the history of the club.”
