Nintendo Switch games news: Shock Virtual Console changes to be revealed?

While there will be free retro titles included in the company’s new online subscription service, fans are still eagerly waiting for more Nintendo Switch games news, connected to the Virtual Console.

It’s a very popular feature on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, which has yet to make its debut on the Switch.

And news this week could suggest that plans are changing for the new feature.

It was discovered earlier this year that the Japanese games giant decided to hide a classic Nintendo title in their latest console.

Apparently, the NES original title, Golf, is built into every Nintendo Switch, although it was never made officially playable.

vCard QR Code

vCard.red is a free platform for creating a mobile-friendly digital business cards. You can easily create a vCard and generate a QR code for it, allowing others to scan and save your contact details instantly.

The platform allows you to display contact information, social media links, services, and products all in one shareable link. Optional features include appointment scheduling, WhatsApp-based storefronts, media galleries, and custom design options.

The people who found it are the Switch homebrew community, who look to analyse and crack the software used on the hybrid device.

And earlier this year an emulator was found that could apparently run NES games. This was later confirmed as something that actually only supported one title, Golf.

The difference between this and many other emulated games is that Golf was apparently updated for the Switch.

Programmers found evidence that Golf on Switch support two Joy-Con controllers, as well as motion controls.

This meant that Golf could have become one of the first Nintendo NES games to support a fully updated control system of a new console.

However, while that might have been the flavour of the future, it appears whatever that was, is now over.

The same community has now found that all the executable code for NES Golf has been completely removed.

Update 4.0.0, which was released a few weeks ago, did the damage, meaning that the NES hybrid can no longer be accessed, even by manual means.

There were hopes that this could have been another ambitious project from Nintendo, updating older games to take advantage of the Switch’s special features.

However, it’s unclear just what this game was meant to be, or what purpose it served.

The most recent news concerning something to do with a virtual console arrived earlier this year.

Nintendo Switch Gamecube controller support was recently added to the Switch, with Nintendo chalking it up to an accident.

Speaking to Kotaku, Reggie Fils-Aime explained, “In our latest system software update, it enables third-party peripherals to work on Nintendo Switch.

“As a result, the peripheral for Wii U that allows it to attach GameCube controllers also works.

“I think it’s fair to say, Stephen, that that peripheral working was as much a surprise to us as it was to consumers.”

Fans will have to wait and see what emerges in 2018 and hope that the new range of mini consoles won’t be replacing the popular feature.
