Kate Middleton pregnant: Duchess of Cambridge Christmas gift to the Queen revealed

Will Meghan Markle have to curtsey to Kate Middleton once she marries Prince Harry? Neither woman has royal blood – but there are strict rules and protocol to follow.

The current rules on who-curtseys-to-who were first drawn up by the Queen’s private secretary, in a document in 2005, entitled ‘Precedence Of The Royal Family To Be Observed At Court’ – its purpose was to clarify Camilla’s position in the hierarchy following her marriage to Charles.

Royal expert Christopher Wilson revealed Meghan will always be expected to curtsey to her sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge.

Revealing how she came to decide on her present, she said: “I was worried what to give the Queen as her Christmas present. I was thinking, ‘Gosh, what should I give her?’

“And I thought back to what would I give my own grandparents. And I thought, ‘I’ll make her something.’

“Which could have gone horribly wrong. But I decided to make my granny’s recipe of chutney.”

The gift was well received, and the chutney was placed on the dinner table for all of the family to enjoy the next day.

What does one gift the Queen for Christmas? It seems Kate has worked out the answer.

In an interview for 2016 ITV documentary Our Queen at Ninety, Kate revealed she shuns the shops for her grandmother-in-law and instead makes something.

Prince William’s wife made a chutney using her own grandmother’s recipe.

2018 will be a huge year for the Royal Family, with Kate giving birth in April and Prince Harry marrying girlfriend Meghan Markle in May.

But while Kate and William will attend, not all of their children are likely to. Royal weddings tend to feature children as attendants, so Prince George, 4, and Princess Charlotte, 2, would be a pageboy and Charlotte a flower girl.

But there would be no such role for a tiny baby – and Kate is unlikely to bring her newborn for one particular reason.

As the child may not have been seen in public much yet, Kate will not want to take attention from Harry and Meghan on their special day.

What will Kate and William name their third child? The most popular baby names for 2018 for both boys and girls have been predicted by Babygaga.

And there is one name on the list for girls with distinctly royal history.

Since the couple have chosen classic British names so far, they are likely to do the same again, and this name is one of the most famous British names available.
