Cristiano Ronaldo’s free-kick was enough to seal victory over Gremio in the Club World Cup final yesterday, sealing Los Blancos’ third tournament victory.
The win – Real’s second consecutive triumph and third in the last four years – equalled the trophy tally of La Liga rivals Barcelona in the FIFA competition.
While the Spanish giants have dominated in recent seasons, Brazilian sides also have a superb record in the competition.
Despite Gremio meekly stepping aside in this year’s final, Corinthians have triumphed twice while Sao Paulo and Internacional have also won the tournament, beating Liverpool and Chelsea respectively.
