BBC issues BIZARRE job advert for post in world’s MOST REMOTE island

Must have clean driving licence, head for heights and be prepared to live on one of the most remote islands.

To be handed the keys to a bungalow and begin life in an exotic location the successful applicant must also pass a mast climbing test.

The BBC World Service is advertising for an aerial maintenance worker on its Atlantic Relay Station at English Bay on Ascension Island.

The base helps provide coverage to Africa and South America and the advert is in The Sentinel newspaper on St Helena.

The South Atlantic islands are their nearest neighbours despite being 800 miles apart.

They are part of the British Overseas Territory of St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha.

Ascension lies 1,000 miles off Africa and 1,400 miles from the coast of Brazil.

It has around 800 residents. The French emperor Napoleon lived out his final days in exile on St Helena.

Ascension is home to a Royal Air Force base which has a United States Air Force presence.

It also has a European Space Agency rocket tracking station and an Anglo-American signals intelligence facility.
