Star Wars axed scene shock: ‘Luke and Rey searching for DEATH STAR’, Mark Hamill reveals

2015’s The Force Awakens famously featured only a brief moment of Luke, as Rey (Daisy Ridley) successfully hunted him down.

Now, with Star Wars: The Last Jedi just days away from release, Hamill has opened up on what he would have been up to if an early draft of the script had stayed in tact.

He told the Big Issue: “In that version, the Death Star had sunk to the bottom of the ocean, and there were clues we needed.

“I was with Daisy Ridley’s character in scuba gear in the wreck.”

It sounds somewhat random, but Hamill added: “It was just awesome. I had my hopes falsely raised!

“I didn’t know they would reconfigure it to do it the way they did it, and no one really told me until I read the script.”

Despite his minimal scene time – and no dialogue whatsoever – in The Force Awakens, Hamill will be back with maximum impact in The Last Jedi, out Thursday.

With reviews due to be published tomorrow evening, early social media buzz has indicated the feedback will be very positive indeed.

Fandango’s Erik Davis, for example, tweeted: “#TheLastJedi is absolutely fantastic – gripping, touching, funny and powerful w/ gorgeous shots and the most badass battles.

“When it gets going, holy crap does it get going. Hands down the best #StarWars movie since Empire.”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is out on Thursday in the UK and Friday in the US.
