White House denies Trump has DEMENTIA after slurred Israel speech prompted health concerns

Millions of people across the world watched the US President announce plans to recognise Jerusalem as the new Israeli capital – but his message was not the only thing to catch viewers’ attention.

He slurred his words at several points during the announcement and appeared to say “God bless the United Schtates” has he concluded his speech.

The President’s obvious difficulties during his speech sparked major concerns for his health, including suggestions he may be suffering from dementia.

The President’s late father, Fred Trump, suffered with Alzheimer’s disease for six years, which is the cause of 60-70 per cent of cases of dementia.

However, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders was quick to address the rumours.

She told reporters: “There were a lot of questions on that. Frankly pretty ridiculous questions.

“The President’s throat was dry. Nothing more than that.”

She also confirmed Trump would go through a full medical exam in the first part of next year, expected to be through the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Meanwhile, a US dentist told the Mail the President’s speech issues sounded “like a loose denture plate”.

He said: “Saliva can get trapped between an upper plate and the palate – or between the lower plate and the lower jaw – and that’s what makes the noise.”

He also speculated that it’s also “a bit like what you get when you try to talk after you lose a filling”.

It isn’t the first time a dry throat has caused a world leader to trip over their words – Theresa May’s Conservative party conference speech was overshadowed by a persistent cough that forced the Prime Minister to repeatedly stop her speech to take sips of water.

At one point, Chancellor Philip Hammond had to pass the Prime Minister a throat lozenge as she stumbled through one of the most memorable speeches of her political career.
