REVEALED: Rush to save shot North Korean defector with 10-inch PARASITES in intestine

Mr Oh, a soldier guarding the North-South border, was shot five times by his fellow North Korean soldiers as he made his dash for freedom across the border.

He was airlifted to freedom by a US Black Hawk helicopter, coming close to death during the long ride to hospital.

New video obtained by CNN shows the dash to get him to treatment – where not just bullets, but 10-inch parasites too, were removed from his body.

Mr Oh was rushed into the Ajou University Trauma Centre, where a six-hour battle began to keep him alive.

Surgeon Lee Cook-Jong has revealed details of the dramatic chain of events that ensued inside the hospital.

When defector Oh arrived at the hospital, Dr Lee said: “His vital signs were so unstable, he was dying of low blood pressure, he was dying of shock.

“He was like a broken jar. We couldn’t put enough blood into him.”

Then, during a five-hour operation to remove a bullet that had pierced Mr Oh’s intestines, Dr Lee encountered huge parasites inside his system.

He said he had never seen anything like it in his 20-year surgery career.

Dr Lee explained: “Everything was stained with blood, but the parasite was basically a really white colour and this thick, big, long and very, very hard, this kind of thing was getting out from his bowel system.”

Some of the parasites were an enormous 10 inches in length.

They are usually symptomatic of poor sanitary conditions. Parasites of this kind are usually transmitted through contact with faecal matter or unwashed hands.

Mr Oh was in danger of dying on the operating table, but is now making a promising recovery, according to medics.

Dr Lee reports he is now walking and talking, although he is struggling with severe PTSD due to the traumas he experienced living in and then escaping the secretive dictatorship.
