That is the opinion of Sky Sports golf expert Simon Holmes.
Woods backed up his three-under par first round by going five-under through his front nine in Albany today.
The American had the outright lead after an eagle on the ninth.
Holmes was impressed with Woods’ driving and putting and says they gave him confidence the 41-year-old can compete for Majors next year.
“That is a cannon!” Holmes said of Tiger Woods’ tee-shot on the ninth.

“If he can get that club going, and the putter as it is right now, it will be very interesting to see if he can challenge (Jordan) Spieth etc next year at the big events.
“That’s the right amount of speed to be in that top echelon of players.
“You are playing the golf course from the right places, you are playing the right clubs.
“He’s got the power up and he’s got the mental power much greater than anyone else. It will be a contest.”
