Ms Haley’s comments follow North Korea’s latest rocket test, which Kim Jong-un later boasted was its nuclear-capable Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) that could hit “all the US mainland”.
The despot also claimed that North Korea was now “a responsible nuclear power”.
Speaking to the UN Security Council, Ms Haley hit back warning that North Korea’s aggression “brings the world war closer to war”.
She added: “We have never sought war with North Korea, and still today we do not seek it. If war does come, it will be because of continued acts of aggression like we witnessed yesterday.”

The US ambassador also called on China to cut off oil supplies to North Korea in a bid to strongarm Kim Jong-un into halting his nuclear weapons programme.
China is North Korea’s sole major ally and they share a long border and significant trade.
North Korea launched its third ICBM on Tuesday which according to Seoul’s military flew some 596 miles (960km) to an altitude of around 2,796 miles (4,500km).
In a rare address, Kim Jong-un declared “with pride that now we have finally realised the great historic cause of completing the state nuclear force”.
The dictator personally authorised the test launch which the rogue state claimed soared to an altitude of about 4,475 km (2,780 miles) – more than 10 times the height of the International Space Station – and flew 950 km (590 miles) during its 53-minute flight.
It flew higher and longer than any North Korean missile before, landing in the sea, near Japan.
Experts said the new “Hwasong-15” missile theoretically gave North Korea the ability to hit the United States, including the East Coast, although it was not clear whether it could carry a nuclear weapon.
Kim Jong-un’s mouthpiece Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said: “The ICBM Hwasong-15 type weaponry system is an intercontinental ballistic rocket tipped with a super-large heavy warhead which is capable of striking the whole mainland of the US.

North Korea latest test was its third ICBM launch this year -– the first was on July 4
If war does come, it will be because of continued acts of aggression like we witnessed yesterday
“This system has much greater advantages in its tactical and technological specifications and technical characteristics than Hwasong-14 whose test-fire was conducted in July last, and it is the most powerful ICBM which meets the goal of the completion of the rocket weaponry system development set by the DPRK.
It added: ““The test-fire was conducted in the highest angle launch system and it had no adverse effect on the security of neighbouring countries.
“The development and advance of the strategic weapons of the DPRK are to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country from the US imperialists’ nuclear blackmail policy and nuclear threat and to ensure the peaceful life of the people.
“They would not pose any threat to any country and region as long as the interests of the DPRK are not infringed upon.
“This is our solemn declaration.
“As a responsible nuclear power and a peace-loving state, the DPRK will make every possible effort to serve the noble purpose of defending peace and stability of the world.”
Earlier this month Donald Trump declared North Korea is back on the US’ watch list for state sponsored terrorism amid rising tensions over Kim Jong-un’s nuclear weapons programme.
The US President made the announcement on Monday as he blasted North Korea for repeatedly supporting “acts of international terrorism, including assassinations on foreign soil” – believed be a reference to the murder of Kim Jong-un’s half-brother Kim Jong-nam earlier this year.
President Trump said: “In addition to threatening the world by nuclear devastation, North Korea has repeatedly supported acts of international terrorism, including assassinations on foreign soil.
“This designation will impose further sanctions and penalties on North Korea and related persons and supports our maximum pressure campaign to isolate the murderous regime.”
He added that North Korea, who was removed from the list in 2008 under then-President George W Bush, should have been re-listed “a long time ago”.
Meanwhile, some experts, including a former chief US negotiator during the 1994 North Korean nuclear crisis, have warned it could be a “miscalculation” by Trump and “just further cements a dangerous game of escalatory brinkmanship” amid World War 3 fears.
