Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho changes huge transfer plans due to Anthony Martial

Manchester United were linked with a move form Inter Milan winger Ivan Persisc in the summer but a deal failed to materialise.

Jose Mourinho is said to have been frustrated by the club’s inability to get a deal done for the Croatia international.

And he was reportedly clinging to the possibility of bringing the experienced winger to Old Trafford in January.

However, The Independent claim Mourinho’s transfer plans have now drastically changed due to the form of Anthony Martial in recent weeks.

The Frenchman has come to fore this term for the Red Devils and boasts an impressive return of six goals in 13 Premier League games.

Since starting the season on the bench, the 21-year-old has muscled his way into United’s starting XI.

And Mourinho is said to now be content with keeping the former Monaco man and will no longer pursue Perisic.

The Independent claim Martial’s form is also part of the reason why United’s interest in Antoine Griezmann and Gareth Bale has cooled.

Speaking about Martial following his goal in the 4-2 win over Watford, Mourinho said: “Yes, I am pleased.

“He was dangerous and [scored] an important goal.

“I think he suffers a little bit with accumulation of matches – I could feel that in the second half he was going down and down and down.

“He’s still a young guy and his body, his biological situation has space to improve but in the first half he had strength and explosion in his legs.”
