It’s now been five years since Men in Black 3 was released and fans are hungry for some more alien fighting action.
Back in summer 2012 when the time-travelling comedy was released, Smith confirmed that Men in Black 4 would happen.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, he said: “We’re very pleased with the financial performance of Men in Black 3, and we believe it is an ongoing franchise.
“We’re going to do (another one), but we don’t have clarity yet on how it should be done.”
However since then a few changes have taken place. At first there was going to be a crossover with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum’s 22 Jump Street called MIB23. Yet that didn’t get off on the ground.

Then in January of this year, original director Barry Sonnenfeld gave an update admitting he wants Men in Black 4 to happen.
Speaking with Digital Spy, he said: “I wish there were a fourth film. I don’t think Will Smith nor I would be involved. But I love the franchise, because I developed it and created it.
“But I think the problem with making a fourth film – for a while they were talking about combining 21 Jump Street and Men in Black – [is] there are too many expensive players in the mix.
“There’s [Steven] Spielberg, there’s other producers, and I think the way to do it is to have new agents or something like that.
He added: “Not have me, not have Will, not have Tommy [Lee Jones]. Just have other adventures. I wish they would do it, I don’t know if they will.”
But then in September something happened. Sony Pictures announced a new movie will be released on May 17, 2019.
According to Deadline the film is a Men in Black spin-off with Smith and Jones not expected to reprise their roles.
Steven Spielberg is executive producing with the writers of Iron Man and Transformers: The Last Knight penning a script.
Another producer Walter F. Parkes confirmed the news: “It’s so rare to get to the end of the script and know you’re holding a movie in your hands, but Art and Matt have written a spinoff that somehow is true to the core of the MIB world and yet expands the franchise to a fresh new place.”
