Roger Federer is a tennis MANIAC – Rogers Cup chief amazed by what tennis legend did

The Swiss star’s love for tennis is second to none and at the age of 36 he continues to dominate the sport.

Roger Federer enjoyed a stellar 2017 season, winning two Grand Slams, finishing second in the world rankings behind only Rafael Nadal.

One title Federer came close to getting this year was the Rogers Cup.

Federer made it through to the final only to lose to Germany’s Alexander Zverev with the 20-year-old winning 6-3 6-4 in Montreal, Canada.

But despite him losing the final, Federer still left a good impression on his Canadian fans, as well as Louis Borfiga, Tennis Canada’s Vice President of High Performance and Rogers Cup tournament director Eugene Lapierre.

”Federer is a tennis maniac,” Lapierre said.

“His agent Tony Godsick told me that recently, before one of his matches, he sent messages of support to the Swiss team 14 years and under who participated in an international competition!

“He follows everything, absolutely everything.”

Federer is keen to help the younger generation of tennis players and teenager Felix Auger-Aliassime will get the chance to spend part of December training with the eight-time Wimbledon champions and other ATP players in Dubai after receiving an invitation from the Swiss.

“Federer loves tennis, he’s a real fan. He watches the 14 and 15 year olds play all the time. I think he wants to help the new generation,” Borfiga added.

“I also think he likes Felix and his personality.

“He wants to give back some of what tennis has given to him. He wants to help Felix… maybe avoid some of the traps that would be good to avoid at his age.”

17-year-old Auger-Aliassime is currently ranked 159 in the world after turning professional just last year.
