Black Friday 2017: Here are some of the WORST deals and disappointing discounts in the UK

is here.

The one-day sales event sees thousands of products discounted online and in-store for 24 hours.

For those who don’t know, Black Friday is an American tradition.

The annual sales event originated in the United States and traditionally follows Thanksgiving Day – the fourth Thursday of November.

This year that falls on Friday November 24th.

Black Friday – so called because it allows high street stores to get out of the red and “into the black”, thanks to the profits made during the sales – sees retailers slash prices in-store and online to capitalise on the holiday shopping rush.

, , , , Vodafone, Mobiles.co.uk, Tesco, Currys PC World, and others, are all running promotions for Black Friday.

However, while its true that Argos has never charged less than £419 for the iPad Mini 4, it hasn’t exactly reduced the price either.

The £419 price tag is the recommended retail price for the iPad Mini 4, which is on-sale for the same amount in your local Apple Store year-round.

Meanwhile, Amazon is currently selling the Oral-B Smart Series 4000 Electric Rechargeable Toothbrush for £37.99.

The US retail firm claims that is a saving of £92 – or 71% off the recommended retail price.

But it turns out Amazon shoppers could have picked up the same toothbrush for £32.99 back in May – or a saving of £97.

Consumer watchdog Which? warned shoppers to be cautious when shopping in Black Friday sales.

Which? managing director of home products and services, Alex Neill said: “Our research shows that although Black Friday can offer some great discounts, not all offers are as good as they seem.

“It’s easy to get swept along by hype and excitement on the day, so we recommend doing some preparation and research to help make sure you really are getting a good deal when shopping in the sales.”

While there are certainly bargains to be had over the Black Friday sales period, not every sale item is worth your time.

For some products, it might be worth holding out for a cheaper price in the new year.
