Tiger Woods: The internet proves he will never be the same again – Brandel Chamblee

Woods is currently gearing up for his return at the World Hero Challenge, which takes place next week.

The 41-year-old is aiming to come back better than ever, with injuries and personal problems damaging his form and reputation in recent years.

But golfer turned commentator Chamblee thinks Woods will never be able to rejoin the likes of Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas at the top of the rankings.

“No is the short answer,” Chamblee told golf.com.

“If you do an internet search of the greatest sports comebacks from injury, you’ll get a litany of injuries.

“The one thing you will not get is a bad back followed by great athletic achievement.”

Chamblee has also seen nothing to suggest that Woods will return better than ever before.

“A bad back by a 41-year-old, four back surgeries in the last three or four years, followed by the emotional stress of the scandal and the controversies that have followed him around and likely some addictions, followed by the chipping yips, which various people have texted me, all caps, exclamation points, that he is over. I’ve seen no evidence that he’s over it,” he added.

“You cannot play the Tour if you can’t chip.”

Woods allayed fears over his back last month when he said he was hitting the ball better than ever.

“I can’t believe how far I’m hitting the golf ball,” Tiger Woods said on the Holding Court with Geno Auriemma podcast.

“I’m back to hitting it my full numbers and not really trying to do that.

“I didn’t realise how much I had dropped off because of the pain in my back and from me going at it and hitting it normal just because I just lived it from day to day and I really couldn’t tell the difference.

“But now I can tell the difference.”
