Andy Murray confirms SPLIT from coach Ivan Lendl

Murray, who has missed the second half of the season with a hip injury, had rekindled his relationship with Lendl.

The Scot, who played in an exhibition earlier this month against Roger Federer, has been trying to build up his fitness ahead of the Australian Open which gets underway in January.

The 30-year-old, who recently dropped to 16 in the world rankings, had worked with Lendl over two separate periods.

On going his separate ways from Lendl, Murray said in a statement published on his official website: “I’m thankful to Ivan for all his help and guidance over the years, we’ve had great success and learned a lot as a team.

“My focus now is on getting ready for Australia with the team I have in place and getting back to competing.”

Lendl, meanwhile, paid tribute to Murray following his departure.

“We had a great run and a lot of fun.”

During their time together, Murray collected three Grand Slam titles, won two Olympic golds and reached No1 in the world rankings.

Lendl previously split up from Murray after deciding he didn’t want to continue touring.

It remains unclear yet as to who will coach Murray, however he has a solid team behind him, which includes Jamie Delgado, who began working with him in February 2016.

Murray is currently at his Miami training base and will be hoping to make inroads into the top four in 2018.
