Roger Federer has provided this common misperception of him – Greg Rusedski

Those are the thoughts of former British tennis star Greg Rusedski.

Federer was far from vintage, but he came through in three sets against the world number three – 7-6 (8-6), 5-7, 6-1.

The victory ensured he booked his place in the semi-finals of the tournament with one round robin game to spare.

Federer, who has 19 Grand Slam titles to his name, is chasing his third title at London’s 02 Arena.

His path to the final has been made easier by the fact Rafael Nadal withdrew from the tournament on Monday with a knee injury.

Federer has provided many a magical moment over his career, but Rusedski thinks his nimble feet enable him to move effortlessly around the court.

“Lots of people watch Federer and says he glides around the court, but if you cut off the top half and watch his feet,” Rusedski told Sky Sports.

“His feet move so quickly and you can see the difference in the third set.

“It was a big change.”

Federer meanwhile, paid tribute to Zverev after his win.

He added: “I’m excited for Alex’s future.

“He’s a wonderful guy and a great, great player.

“I’m happy and relieved that I can play freely against Cilic, instead of it being a nail-biter. It’s been a tough group so to be through in two matches is great.”
