Donald Trump now says Russia DID MEDDLE in US election in a bizarre security agency U-TURN

Yesterday, the US President said that he believes Vladimir Putin when he claims that he did not interfere with the November election.

However, at a press conference just hours later the US President said that he believed the views of the US intelligence agencies, who have already concluded that Russia intervened.

He said: “As to whether I believe it or not, I’m with our agencies.”

The President told the press conference in Vietnam: “As currently led, by fine people, I believe very much in our intelligence agencies.”

The US intelligence services have previously concluded that Russia tried to influence the result of the election.

The later statement from Mr Trump appears at odds with comments he made yesterday after a meeting with Vladimir Putin.

Speaking to the media after his meeting with the Russian leader Mr Trump said: “He said he absolutely did not meddle in our election. He did not do what they are saying he did.

“I really believe that when he tells me that, he means it… I think he’s very insulted if you want to know the truth.”

Mr Trump came under fire from politicians back in the US for saying he agreed with the Russian President.

In an attempt to link both comments Mr Trump said he was sure Putin believed he had not interfered in the election, implying that the Russian melding may not be directly linked to the country’s leader.

Mr Trump said: “I believe that President Putin really feels, and feels strongly, that he did not meddle in our election.

“What he believes is what he believes.”

In another break from the US President’s usual rhetoric, he also used the press conference to offer “friendship” to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Just days ago Mr Trump addressed the South Korean General Assembly.

In his speech, he threatened the rogue regime “do not underestimate us. Do not try us.”

However, in a change of tone at the Vietnam press conference the US leader said “it would be very very nice” if he and Kim became friends.

He added: “That might be a strange thing to happen but it’s a possibility.”

The friendship offered at the press conference did come with a caveat as he has previously tweeted: “Why would Kim Jong-un insult me by calling me “old,” when I would NEVER call him “short and fat?” Oh well, I try so hard to be his friend – and maybe someday that will happen!”
