eBay: Rare 50p coin selling for over £1200 – could YOU have one stashed in your pockets?

The coin has become a sought-after collector’s item with five people currently watching it on the auction website.

The Peter Rabbit 50p coin was produced by the Royal Mint to make the 150th anniversary of the birth of Beatrix Potter.

There are two versions of the 2016 Peter Rabbit 50p available – both in colour and silver.

This one shows a headshot of Peter Rabbit with his name by his ears.

Its mintage is yet to be confirmed by the Royal Mint, but it is no longer available to buy on its website.

Another Beatrix Potter 50p coin was being auctioned on eBay this week for the whopping sum of £2,500.

The silver proof Benjamin Bunny coin with a coloured design was minted in 2017 by Royal Mint.

The coin was the final coin in the Beatrix Potter collection, which has proved hugely popular with collectors.

This coin is being sold by eBay seller Squibalicous, who said of the coin: “This is a One-Of-A-Kind error in the minting process. This can be seen as the last picture above shows how the coin should look (Only the error coin will be received)

“This coin is a rarity, that collectors would have a keen interest in. Item will be sent special delivery as soon as payment has cleared.”

The coin comes in a clear acrylic case with a certificate of authenticity, and has been hand painted by Royal Mint.

The seller added: “This is the last in the series of Beatrix Potter coins and only 40,000 of these coins have been produced.”

The NHS 50p, which went into circulation in 1998, is selling as a trio with the Battle of Hastings and Sir Isaac Newton coins for £1.5million on eBay.
