Nintendo’s success story looks to be drawing more attention from leading development teams and publishers.
We’ve recently seen Bethesda jump in with some cracking announcements, while Ubisoft have been leading the way with their collection of titles.
It was only this week confirmed that the exclusive Mario + Rabbids game helped raise profits at the French publisher.
And now other major parties seem ready to start supporting the Nintendo Switch games list with new projects.
During Square Enix’s earnings report, it was revealed that the company are now ready to extend their reach with additional Switch products.
And further to that, the major publisher has also revealed that they are not ruling out any major IPs, meaning that a lot of games could be ported over.
Tech reporter for The Wall Street Journal, Takashi Mochizuki, translated some of the takeaways from the recent report.
“(When considering games for Switch), we won’t rule out any IPs. Those include new ones, currently active ones, currently not-active ones,” Mochizuki posted on Twitter.
“Probably other platforms will get these too as part of multi, but we would aggressively make games for Switch.
“Switch’s core architecture similar to PS4/Xbox One. Some adjustment necessary, but multi-platform games not impossible.”
Another range of points made by Square Enix include the company believing that Switch momentum is very strong right now and that the console’s positioning is unique vs PS4 & Xbox One.
Square Enix also believe that multi-platform development is possible by building a basic version of a game then optimising it for each platform.
They added that they had high expectations for the Nintendo Switch, and would aggressively pursue development.
The comments will raise hopes that Final Fantasy 15, out now on PS4 and Xbox One, and Final Fantasy 7 could come to the Nintendo Switch.
Ahead of a possible Final Fantasy 7 Remake announcement, some retailers that are taking pre-orders have listed possible release dates.
Import specialist Play Asia previously listed the Final Fantasy 7 Remake release date as this December, before turning it to “to be announced”.
More interestingly though, GameSeek has a very specific date for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
The online retailer has listed the Final Fantasy 7 Remake as having a June 15 2018 release date.
