Guinness World Records Day: Jet suit speed record SMASHED in the UK

In the UK, Richard Browning, founder and chief test pilot of Gravity Industries has soared into the record books with the brand new Guinness World Records title for the Fastest speed in a body-controlled jet engine power suit.

On a dramatic day at Lagoona Park, Reading, Browning achieved a speed of 32.02 mph (51.53 km/h) on his third and final timed attempt before mistiming a turn and dropping into the lake.

Speaking about his new record, he said: “I am delighted we have set the record, and I have no doubt that this is just the beginning – I really think we can go on and smash it.

“I’m very proud indeed to be a part of Guinness World Records Day, it is a pleasure and a privilege to have our unique creation recognised and celebrated all round the world.”

Record-breaking didn’t stop there. In the USA, GWR Day favourites the Harlem Globetrotters have reached yet new heights with Thunder Law achieving the record for the Highest upward basketball shot with an impressive 15.26m (50 ft).

Chinese contortionist Liu Teng successfully achieved the Guinness World Records title for the Fastest time to travel 20m in a contortion roll beating the previous record which had been held for four years. Lily achieved the record in a timely 15.54 seconds.

Yuuki Yoshinaga from Japan smashed the previous record for the Most football rolls from eye to eye in one minute with a total of 189, demonstrating incredible skill and control.

It’s Yuuki’s third Guinness World Records title and he said: “This feeling does not change no matter how many times I have done the attempts.

“I am so thankful for this opportunity and I will do my best to master my football skills.”

Swedish social media star Therese Lingdren has baked her way to success in GWR Day achieving the record for the Largest vegan cake, a semolina cake, weighing in at 462.4kg.

Therese chose to do this attempt to coincide with the launch of her new book promoting veganism and has shared the news with her 500k YouTube subscribers on her channel.

Guinness World Records organisers claim more than 600,000 people around the globe will be attempting to  break records today.
