Melania Trump, 47, joined husband Donald Trump, 71, for dinner with Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe, 63, and his wife Akie Abe, 55, in Tokyo.
Normally a fan of bright colours and prints, Melania opted for a severe black outfit instead.
The long coat dress came below the First Lady’s knees, with a high collar which stopped just short of her chin.
The double-breasted item was nipped in at the waist with a silk black belt.
But it wasn’t Melania’s outfit which proved to be the focal point of her look today.

Instead the First Lady made another bold statement – this time with her hair.
Melania usually wears her locks in a bouncy blow-dry with a centre parting.
But she switched up her look for dinner by opting for a deep side-parting instead.
This gave her the appearance of a side-swept fringe, which is a more casual look for Melania.
As usual, she kept her makeup impeccable, with dark smoky eyes and light pink glossy lips complementing her tanned complexion.
Her choice of a black outfit may have been on the advice of Akie Abe, as she also wore all black for dinner.
But the men did not get the style memo, with Donald Trump wearing navy blue and Shinzo Abe in charcoal grey.
Earlier today, Melania missed the mark in an oversized striped coat.
Its woollen material and flower embellishment didn’t flatter the 47-year-olds frame.
She added some simple nude pumps and nails to the statement look as she joined Mrs Akie Abe at the Mikimoto Ginza Main Store in Tokyo.
Melania was shown Japanese cultured pearls at a flagship pearl shop.
