Broadband too slow? Samsung plans to make YOUR speeds over 600 times faster

Samsung is planning to bring fast broadband to more UK homes

Despite huge investment many UK homes are still suffering from dire broadband connections.

A recent report discovered that the average download speeds faced by millions of homes across Britian is around 16Mbps.

This is way behind most parts of Europe with Swedish broadband users getting an average of 40Mbps – over two times faster.

As we all become more reliant on broadband, these terrible speeds are becoming more of an issue.

Homes are getting smarter and now need a decent connection to make sure the plethora of internet connected gadgets, such as themostats, cameras and light bulbs, stay online.

And with the explosion of 4K Ultra HD content, a fast speed is becoming a necessity – it currently takes some UK homes over an hour to download a single Hollywood blockbuster.

Samsung plans to bring faster speeds to homes via a 5G signal

Luckily, some good news is on the horizon for consumers with working on a technology that will dramatically increase our home broadband.

5G is next generation of mobile signal which will bring faster speeds to the smartphones of the future.

However, Samsung says that 5G could also be used to beam superfast speeds into homes across the world.

The reason 5G is so much faster is that it has a much larger bandwidth which basically means more data can be beamed to more people at much faster speeds.

Express.co.uk recently took a trip to South Korea to see what Samsung has in store and the technology looks mightily impressive.

5G could transform broadband in the UK with speeds of over 20Gbps a genuine possibility – this would allow users to download full 4K movies and games in seconds.

Another benefit of this technology is that it can be installed without anyone needing to come near your home.

5G works like the current 4G signal that transfers data to your smartphone which means it can be beamed into homes without the need for cables.

And this is hugely important as it’s often these outdated wires that slow speeds down to a crawl.

Even if your street has superfast fibre installed, if the cable going into your home isn’t up to the job your speeds will be throttled.

Samsung plans to install its 5G network on lampposts on city streets with consumers simply needing a receiver in their home to benefit from the technology.

Samsung’s clever base stations would also allow up to 25 4K streams to be beamed to a house simultaneously meaning every member of the household would get the ultimate connection.

And it’s not just in your home where the Korean technology firm is planning to boost speeds as it says 5G could be used along train lines and in city centres to give fast connectivity when on the move.

To prove this technology works, Samsung is already testing its 5G network in the US and UK with London the first to get the system installed.

Samsung has already begun sending data across the capital at speeds of around 1Gbps which is over 600 times faster than the UK average.

These test will continue over the coming months but Samsung is hoping that consumers may get the chance to use 5G sooner than you might think.

In fact it could be fully functional for some users as earlier as 2019.

Samsung is investing heavily in 5G

Samsung are not the only company working on 5G technology but they are investing huge amounts of time and money into this new technology.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Wonil Roh, Vice President, Next Generation Communications Business Team IT and Mobile Communications, said the entire industry is working fast with Samsung proud of what they have achieved so far.

5G is a very challenging area but Roh states the ultimate aim is to increase speeds, reduce latency and allow more people to connect at any time – something that is sure to be welcomed by anyone who suffers the daily issue of the UK’s dire broadband.
