Anthony Joshua: I would EAT Deontay Wilder at his weight for Bermane Stiverne fight

Joshua secured a 20th win as a professional by knocking out Carlos Takam last weekend in front of 78,000 in Cardiff.

The Brit successfully defend his IBF and WBA world heavyweight titles and his promoter Eddie Hearn immediately stated their intentions to unify the heavyweight division in 2018.

That would mean fighting WBO champ Joseph Parker and WBC king Wilder, who is expected to defend his belt with ease against Bermane Stiverne tonight.

But when the American weighed in at 220.75lb for the bout, Hearn texted Joshua in surprise.

“I probably shouldn’t tell you the reply but he said ‘I’d eat him’,” Hearn told Sky Sports.

By contrast, Joshua himself weighed in heavier than he ever has for the Takam fight at 254lb.

It means that Wilder could concede nearly two-and-a-half stone to Joshua should they get in the ring next year, although the WBC champion claims the Brit has been avoiding the unification fight.

“I want to unify the division so bad. That’s my ultimate goal,” Wilder said.

“I don’t care about how much money it is, the buildup, this and that – that all plays a part in it.

“But my sole feeling is I want those belts.

“I wanna unify, but I don’t think [Joshua and Parker] wanna do the same thing.

“They talk the talk, but they don’t wanna walk it.”

But by contrast, Matchroom Boxing promoter Hearn insists he is doing his best to make the bout and has rubbished claims that Joshua is afraid of

“The Wilder fight must happen,” Hearn said.

“The promoter in me wants to make it as big as possible.

“At the moment, it is nowhere near as big as it could and should be, but I know what the fans want, they want it now.

“The good news for everybody is that Joshua will fight anyone, you haven’t got to worry about him saying no, he fought Charles Martin in his 16th fight, Wladimir Klitschko in his 19th.

“He’s not afraid to step in or step up.”
