Stephen Hawking says artificial intelligence could ‘replace human beings altogether’

Human beings will design artificial intelligences which ‘improve’ themselves – in much the same way hackers design viruses – and it could doom us all, Stephen Hawking has warned.

In an interview with Wired magazine, Professor Hawking said, ‘I fear that AI may replace humans altogether.

Hawking believes that artificial intelligences which can ‘improve’ themselves are inevitable and that these will be, ‘a new form of life that outperforms humans.’

Hawking says, ‘If people design computer viruses, someone will design AI that improves and replicates itself.

Artificial intelligence applications are more widespread than many people realize.

The scientist said that young people need to learn science – so that humanity can escape the bounds of Earth.
