The Marvel Cinematic Universe is almost 20 movies in and remains a smash hit with critics and the box office alike.
Meanwhile the rival DC Expanded Universe has had something of a troubled start with Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad struggling to win approval.
However this all changed in the summer with Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, winning 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and breaking box office records. With Justice League arriving in just a couple of weeks and very positive first reactions, DC fans are hopeful the trend continues.
Now Superman star Cavill, who returns in the new movie, has admitted that the DC movies made the “right mistakes” before getting it right in 2017.
Speaking with The Rake Magazine, Cavill said: “Even if Marvel didn’t exist, we’d struggle.

“There was a style that [the filmmakers] were going for, an attempt to be different and look at things from a slightly different perspective, which hasn’t necessarily worked.
“It hasn’t given everyone the sensation which superheroes should give the viewer.
“I feel like now, the right mistakes have been made and they haven’t been pandered [to], and we can start telling the stories in the way they need to be told.”
Praising the success of Wonder Woman, he added: “It is even better to come back from a mistake or stylistic error into the correct vein because it will make it seem that much stronger. Wonder Woman was the first step in the right direction.”
Justice League is released in UK cinemas on November 17, 2017.
