Scientists have continually looked at ageing as if it were a disease and have tried to cure it.
From enhancing certain proteins which protect cells from ageing to extending telomeres – fragments of DNA which cap both ends of each chromosome and protect against the wear and tear of natural ageing – scientists have tried to halt the ageing process.
But now, experts say they have conclusive proof there is no way to stop ageing and humans are born to die.
Joanna Masel, a professor at University of Arizona and co-author of the study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, said: “Ageing is mathematically inevitable. Like, seriously inevitable.
“There’s logically, theoretically, mathematically no way out.”

The research suggests by solving one problem with ageing, other problems will become worse.
For example, preventing ageing would require giving healthy cells a boost, but this could mean cancer cells would grow more violently.
Paul Nelson, who led the research, said: If you get rid of those poorly functioning, sluggish cells, then that allows cancer cells to proliferate.
“And if you get rid of, or slow down, those cancer cells, then that allows sluggish cells to accumulate.
“So you’re stuck between allowing these sluggish cells to accumulate or allowing cancer cells to proliferate, and if you do one you can’t do the other. You can’t do them both at the same time.”
However, just because ageing cannot be prevented biologically, scientists are working to help the human race survive digitally.

Russian billionaire Dmitry Itskov is currently working on the 2045 Initiative – a project focused on making immortality a reality by scientists creating a feasible programme which maps the brain.
It then transfers the mind onto a computer, which is put on a robot body or as a hologram.
Mr Itskov says he believes this technology will be ready within 30 years.
