New York shooting: Moment police allegedly ‘shot down a shooter’ after Manhattan rampage

Chilling eyewitness video from the scene of the New York shooting claims to show the moments after a police officer “shot down a shooter”.

The video, shared with social media application Snapchat, shows a group of police officers standing on the pavement after allegedly shooting the gunman.

Written beneath the image of the police officers, the Snapchat user writes: “Cop just shot down a shooter.”

While the video is unverified, police have confirmed one person has been taken into custody.

The police also say they are not looking for additional suspects.

It also remains unclear whether the incidents are connected or terror-related.

Gunshots were heard near Stuyvesant High School, a public New york City school, at around 3pm local time on Tuesday afternoon.

Another eyewitness told US media he saw a white truck drive down a cycle path alongside the West Side Highway at full speed, hitting several people.

He also reported heard around nine or 10 shots, but could not identify which direction they came from.

US media is reported at least five people have been shot but no official casualty number has been confirmed.

buildings close to the scene are on lockdown and the bomb squad is at the scene while details of the incident remain unclear.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is on the way to the scene, according to his press spokesman.

New York City Police Department have urged people to remain away from the area.

A NYPD tweet reads: “Due to police activity, avoid the area of Chambers Street/West St.

“One person is in custody. Expect many emergency personal in the area.”
