That is the view of former British world champion Nigel Mansell.
Hamilton claimed his fourth world title yesterday despite finishing ninth at the Mexican Grand Prix, with rival Sebastian Vettel only managing fourth.
The Brit is now three titles behind Schumacher’s record of seven and 29 race wins behind the German.
Mansell says he predicted a while ago that Hamilton would break the two records by the end of his career.
“Lewis is one of the greats,” Mansell told talkSPORT this morning.

“I forecasted it a few years ago, that I think Lewis can beat all the records, he’s that good.
“He can be the best of the best of the best.
“I think he can go on to win eight world titles.”
After becoming the most successful British driver of all time, Mansell has backed Lewis Hamilton to be knighted.
Asked if he thinks Hamilton deserves to become a Sir, Mansell said: “I think he deserves everything he gets.
“Lewis, for me, is a breath of fresh air.
“He crosses so many boundaries, he’s a nice lad and he’s misunderstood at times.
“I think now he should be revered in every way he can be.”
