Both handsets boast a stunning display, premium hardware design, blisteringly-fast chipset and phenomenal photography prowess.

Those happy to pay a little more can get the flagship handset from EE for £42.99 a month with £19.99 upfront.

EE is also throwing in three free months of BT Sport streaming on your new Galaxy, as well as a free six month subscription to Apple Music for iOS and Android devices.

Both bundles come with a free Galaxy Gear VR headset when brought via Carphone Warehouse.

iPhone 8 contracts with a similarly low upfront cost are much pricier than there Galaxy S8.

For example, EE is offering the iPhone 8 with 64GB of inbuilt storage for £62.99 per month with a £9.99 upfront cost.

This 24-month contract includes unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and 20GB of 4G data.

It also boasts three free months of BT Sport, as well as six months of Apple Music.

O2 has a similar deal, offering unlimited minutes and texts with 30GB of 4G data for £66 a month.

This contract carries the same £9.99 upfront cost, but does include O2 Priority and O2 WiFi as additional perks.

Those willing to pay a little more upfront for the handset can unlock cheaper contracts.

However, to price match the £38 a month deal offered on the Galaxy S8 by Vodafone, those looking for the latest iPhone will have to fork-out £259.99 upfront.

That’s to unlock a £37.99 a month contract from EE, this 24-month deal comes with 8GB of data, as well as unlimited minutes and texts.

As with the other EE contracts, you’ll get three free months access to BT Sport, as well as six month subscription to Apple Music.

If price alone isn’t enough to help pick between these smartphones, the latest report from Consumer Reports might change your mind.

Consumer Reports has awarded the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ scores of 81 out of a possible 100, topping the iPhone 8, which scored 80 under the same criteria.

The renown US non-profit organisation actively recommends the Samsung hardware over the iPhone.
