Thai King funeral: Where will the King of Thailand be laid to rest after cremation?

Sombre scenes from the funeral procession are being live streamed around the world amid a a great outpouring of grief in Thailand. 

King Bhumibol Adulyadej will be cremated later today before being laid to rest in a crematorium at Sanam Luang next to Bangkok’s Grand Palace.

Earlier today the Royal Urn was carried by bearers from the impressive golden Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall in a procession accompanied by troops.

The Royal Urn represents the King, who was revered by many as a demigod, but his actual body was carried separately in a coffin. 

Next the Urn was moved into the ornate golden Great Victory Chariot which was being pulled by 216 men dressed in red.

Members of the royal family are took part in the procession to the Royal Crematorium where the Urn was taken up ramp to the funeral pyre for cremation.

The ashes of the King will then be laid in the Royal Crematorium at Sanam Luang next to Bangkok’s Grand Palace.

Tomorrow the Royal relics and ashes will be taken from the crematorium to Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall and Temple of the Emerald Buddha inside the Grand Palace.

On Sunday, the Royal relics will be transferred to Chakri Maha Prasad Throne Hall, also within the Grand Palace. 

As the mourning draws to a close, the royal ashes will be transferred in a procession to two temples – Wat Rajabopidh and Wat Bovoranives.
