The Nintendo Switch games list has benefitted greatly from some top exclusives this year.
And whatever happens next year, it appears that Nintendo will have plenty of exclusive titles to help make their new console standout from the PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One and Xbox One X.
Kicking things off with the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the Japanese games giant ensured a brilliant start for their new console.
Even without being a Switch exclusive – Zelda Breath of the Wild also launched on the Wii U – it still managed to help power sales of the new hybrid device.
Nintendo used a strategy of launching major new Switch games every few months, spreading them out to avoid stagnant periods.
This involved the likes of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2 and another is just around the corner.
Super Mario Odyssey will be arriving soon and looks set to be another massive hit for Nintendo.
But what about after that?
Well, in a new interview with 4Gamer, it was revealed that Nintendo are hoping to extend their existing strategy with the Switch into 2018.
Super Mario Odyssey producer, Yoshiaki Koizumi, confirmed that while the pace had been hectic so far, Nintendo still had plenty left in the tank.
According to Koizumi, the Switch will see a number of launches in 2018 that will prove exclusive to the console.
He noted that third-party support will likely strengthen too, meaning more games should arrive next year.
Speaking about the launch of so many titles in such a short space of time in 2017, Koizumi commented [TRANSLATION] – “The start is important for the beginning of a new games machine.
“I believe that not only the number of games is important but also the length of time that you can play.
“In order to put out at the time of March rather than the end of the year when the battle is widespread, we had to arrange things that would make it easier for us to imagine Nintendo Switch’s game to be played in an order.”
There was no specific mention of what new IPs could be revealed for next year, we already know that Nintendo are planning launches for new Kirby and Yoshi titles.
Metroid Prime 4 and a new Pokemon games could also launch for the Switch on 2018, however, Nintendo have yet to supply much in way of releases date for them.
There have also been persistent rumours that a Super Smash port from the Wii U is in the works.
While this could also prove true, there’s no reason why Nintendo could delay this project and decide to create a whole new instalment in the franchise for their newest device.
