Paul Vallely, whose son died in Iraq, said Donald Trump would “not ignore” those who sought to criticise him and the United States President was merely “responding” to hostility.
Speaking on Channel 4 News, host Matt Frei said the President was “picking fights” with war veterans’ families.
He said: “He does seem to like picking fights with veterans’ families.
“He picked a fight with a veteran’s family after the Democratic convention.
“Is that good for the unity of the American armed forces, which is as multi-ethnic as American itself?”

He said: “They attacked him. So again, you attacked our President and you have a political nature, he’s going to come back to you.
“He’s not going to ignore you.
“He’s not picking a fight, he’s responding to that attack from that congresswoman and that does not mean a fight.
“He’s very gentle, he’s not a mean person.”
The US President said it was not true he made the comments to Myeshia Johnson in a phone call to express his condolences over the death of her husband.
