Star Wars Battlefront 2 news: EA brings THIS character back from the dead in campaign

Star Wars Battlefront 2’s story mode will bring an original character back from the dead for a small but significant cameo.

*Warning – Spoilers Ahead*

Express Online recently spent some time playing through the first three missions of the Star Wars Battlefront 2 campaign.

The brand new Star Wars story mode kicks off during Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, just before the Rebels destroy the Death Star.

But you’re not part of Lando Calrissian’s strike team, you won’t be fighting alongside the Ewok army on Endor, and you can forget about the showdown between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader.

Players will instead see things from the Empire’s perspective, as Inferno Squad commander Iden Versio.

So while everybody else is celebrating the fall of an Empire, your beleaguered crew is trying to escape Endor and figure out what to do next. Fortunately for Versio, the Empire already has a plan in place.

This is the part when a Star Wars original makes a shock appearance.

Despite having been chucked down a reactor chute by Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine makes a surprise return with a pre-recorded message informing his subjects to carry out something called Operation Cinder.

It appears to be a plan to destabilise the New Republic, although the finer points remain a mystery even to Versio. Indeed, the faithful commander is scolded for daring to enquire about the Empire’s endgame.

Having snuck through a Rebel ship, fought on Endor and weaved through the wreckage of the Death Star in a modified TIE Fighter, our time with Star Wars Battlefront 2 comes to an end – and just as things are starting to get really interesting.

It’s a promising start to a campaign that was sorely missing from the original.

The action in the opening three missions is hugely varied, featuring stealth sections, epic shootouts and even an aerial dogfight or two.

The original story is intriguing, the cut-scenes are suitably dramatic and the voice acting is superb – Iden Versio actorΒ Janina Gavankar is excellent in the role.

Whether campaign developer Motive can keep players hooked until the bitter end remains to be seen, but the signs so far are good.

You can find out for yourself when Star Wars Battlefront 2’s November 17 release date rolls around.
