Czech election polls LIVE: Billionaire Andrej Babis set to deliver blow to the EU

The clock is ticking for Czech voters who have until 2pm CUT (1pm BST) to cast their ballot in the second day of voting.

The first round of unofficial election results will likely arrive just hours after the polls close, but the State Electoral Commission will likely confirm the results next week.

All eyes are trained today on Andrej Babiš, a populist businessman, who has been dubbed the Czech Donald Trump.

Mr Babiš’ ANO movement is current frontrunner in the election, expected to secure the biggest share of votes, but not enough to form a majority government.

The final round of opinion polls give ANO a 25 to 27 share of the vote – twice that of the Social Democrats in second place.

A total of nine parties are fighting to secure seats in the 200-member lower house of the Czech Government.

12.45pm: Latest round of polls put Andrej Babiš and ANO in the lead

The final opinion polls have put ANO in the lead, followed by the Social Democrats (SDP) and the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia.

If ANO wins the election, it will need to look for partners in order to secure a coalition government.

This could however prove difficult for the party after several rivals have refused to strike alliance with ANO because of Mr Babiš’ fraud charges.

The ANO is currently in a three-way coalition with its main election rival, the SDP and the Christian Democrats.

10.46pm: Andrej Babiš’ victory could be a headache for the EU

If the eurosceptic billionaire becomes the new Czech Prime Minister later today, his victory could be a spell of trouble for the European Union.

Following two days if balloting, the populist is the current frontrunner thanks to his opposition to the current government, the euro and EU refugee relocation schemes.

Critics have however pointed out that Mr Babiš faces charges that he illegally received a two million euro subsidy from the EU before entering politics – charges he has denied.

The billionaire who built his empire on food, agriculture and business holdings has also remained largely popular despite the conflict of interests his candidacy has created.
