Nintendo Switch v PS4 – Hit hybrid console beats Sony’s powerhouse AGAIN in sales war

Nintendo Switch has been hugely popular since its launch earlier this year, and the hit console has been giving Sony’s PS4 powerhouse a run for its money.

The PS4 is the best selling console this generation, selling 63.3million units between its launch in November 2013 and June 30 this year.

Analysts are expecting the PS4 in its lifetime to sell over 100million units, which would make it one of the best selling consoles in history.

The PlayStation 4 has been a huge success for Sony so far, but the Tokyo-based tech giant will surely be keeping a watchful eye on the Switch.

Nintendo’s hybrid console has burst out the gate since its launch in March this year, widely selling out across the globe.

Official Switch sales figures showed Nintendo’s console had sold 4.7million units between its release date of March 3 and the end of June.

That is more than a third of what the Wii U – its predecessor – sold during its entire lifetime.

And latest news has shown the Switch continues to be pulling in hugely impressive sales.

The Nintendo Switch has once again topped the US hardware charts, according to market research firm The NPD Group.

The industry tracking group said the Switch was America’s number one console for September.

It was the third month in a row the Switch was the best selling console in the US.

And in the seven months that the Switch has been on sale for, it has topped the US hardware charts for five of those months.

This is despite the console suffering from widespread stock shortages.

In the US gaming charts, four Nintendo Switch games were in the top 11, KitGuru reported.

And with the release of Super Mario Odyssey around the corner, you can expect the Switch to continue selling well.

Nintendo have previously said they are aiming for 10million Switch units sold during its first year on sale.

But the Financial Times have previously reported that Nintendo are aiming to shift 15million Switch consoles during its first year.

If it manages to do that, it will be more than the Wii U sold during its entire lifetime.

Nintendo recently came out to say they will “ramp up” production to meet the huge demand for the Switch.

Speaking to Wall Street Journal, Nintendo said: “We’re doing everything we can to make sure everyone who wants to buy a Nintendo Switch system can do so.

“We will ramp up production for the holiday period, which has been factored into our forecast.”

Next week Super Mario Odyssey, which is arguably the most highly anticipated Switch release of the year, will launch.

A handful of reviews for the next Mario adventure have been leaked, with respected UK gaming magazine EDGE giving it a perfect 10/10.
