Google Pixel 2 release TODAY but there’s a big reason not to buy it just yet

Google announced its new Pixel smartphones earlier this month with both devices including a number of improvements over their predecessors.

The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL feature a faster Snapdragon 835 processor, improved camera – which can add depth of field to images – and there’s even the ability to squeeze the sides of the device to instantly summon Google’s clever Assistant.

The Pixel 2 goes on sale today with EE and Carphone Warehouse the only retailers currently stocking this latest flagship.

Prices from EE start from £47.99 per month with an £9.99 upfront fee.

This deal includes 8GB of data, unlimited calls/texts and the offer of a .

Express.co.uk’s full review of the Pixel 2 is coming soon but, having tested both of the devices from Google, we think it’s a good idea to wait before you buy this smaller smartphone.

Although all of the internal specs are identical on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, the design and screen is considerably different.

Whilst the Pixel 2 sticks with its relatively dull design that includes big bezels around the screen, the Pixel 2 XL has an almost edge-to-edge display.

This means you not only get a phone which looks better but also gives you a much bigger display in a phone that’s actually not that much larger in your pocket.

In fact the Pixel 2 has a 5-inch display whilst the Pixel 2 XL has a giant 6-inch screen despite only being 12mm taller.

Admittedly the Pixel 2 XL is more expensive and you can’t get hold of one until next month but, if you are in the market for a new Google smartphone we’d definitely wait before spending your hard-earned money.

In the UK, those looking to order a Pixel 2 XL in Black and White with 64GB of memory won’t receive their new Android handset until December 2017.

Pre-orders for the new handsets became available immediately after the Google announcement last night – and appear to have been extremely popular.
