Barcelona News: Lionel Messi can reach two landmarks if he scores against Olympiakos

Messi has been named in the Barcelona team for this evening’s Champions League game against the Greek side.

And, should he find the net, that will be his 100th goal in a continental competition for the Catalan giants.

Messi scored goals 98 and 99 in Barcelona’s 3-0 drubbing of Juventus back in September, boosting their chances of finishing top of their group in the process.

However, should he get on the scoresheet tonight, the 30-year-old will also reach another landmark.

A goal at the Nou Camp would make it 50 goals in 2017 for club and country.

A huge 36 of those have come for Barcelona, though was not enough to land them the La Liga and Champions League titles last season.

And that means 14 of those have come for Argentina.

Messi has scored 10 goals in his last 10 games for Barcelona in Europe.

So the 30-year-old is expected to put Olympiakos to the sword this evening.

Meanwhile, Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde is tipping his star performer to win the Ballon d’Or award.

“We all know who is the best player in the world [Messi],” he said.

“Giving a Ballon d’Or or other award to remark that, it is something I don’t care about. It doesn’t change our opinion.

“We all know.”
