Google Chrome update brings great new features, but you may NOT be able to download it

is the world’s most popular browser, with staggering stats showing over three quarters of people worldwide use it to surf the web.

The search engine giant have a number of big updates lined up to improve the experience for users.

are already working on an ad-blocking update which will be rolled out soon for Chrome users.

And a game-changing update which will mute autoplay videos is also getting released to Google Chrome users in January next year.

But ahead of these massive changes to the Chrome experience Google have launched another big update for the hugely popular browser.

The latest Google Chrome update brings with it online security improvements, but it will ONLY be for Windows 10 users.

The Google Chrome update for Windows 10 brings with it three new security features.

The biggest addition is a new option which detects if settings such as the default search engine has been hijacked by a rogue Chrome extension.

If so, it will automatically offer to set things back to normal.

Secondly, the built-in Chrome Cleanup tool has been redesigned and made simpler to use.

It automatically removes harmful software with the press of a button.

Thirdly, the Chrome Cleanup engine has been made more powerful thanks to a Google partnership with IT security company ESET.

Google outlined the changes to Chrome in a new blog post.

The search engine giant said: “We can now detect and remove more unwanted software than ever before, meaning more people can benefit from Chrome Cleanup.”

Google estimates that the new security feature will help “tens of millions” of Chrome users deal with security problems in the next few days.

They added: “We’ve begun to roll this out to Chrome for Windows users now.

“Over the next few days, it will help tens of millions of Chrome users get back to a cleaner, safer web.”

The news comes after it emerged thousands of Google Chrome users have been tricked into downloading a fraudulent version of Adblock Plus web browser extension.

Google Chrome users running the Adblock Plus browser extension need to check the software right now.

Those who recently downloaded the hugely-popular ad-blocking browser extension from the official web store should make sure they’ve installed the right one.

That’s because some 37,000 Google Chrome users have installed a fake version of the browser software.

The fraudulent version of Adblock Plus purportedly passed Google’s verification process and was widely available in the official Chrome web store.

SwiftOnSecurity claims the fake extension was created by a “fraudulent developer who clones popular name and spams keywords”.

The fake version of the app listed its developer as Adblock Plus – and boasted a considerable number of reviews.

That made it difficult to tell the genuine browser extension apart from the fraudulent version.

The official version of Adblock Plus can be found in the Chrome web store here

Thankfully, the fraudulent version has now been removed.

Recent stats from Google show that Chrome is used on more than three billion devices across the globe.

And according to stats from NetMarketShare, Google Chrome is used by just over 77 per cent of internet users.
