Fast and Furious 8: Helen Mirren opens up on surprise cameo (EXCLUSIVE)

The iconic British star plays Mrs Magdalene Shaw in an uncredited cameo – the mother of Deckard (Jason Statham) and Owen (Luke Evans) Shaw.

She has a brilliant scene with Statham, in which she lightly slaps him and pretends to break down in tears in order to guilt-trip him.

Speaking about her character, she said: “The traditional old East End that I’m quite familiar with because my mum was from the East End of London.

“It’s like a little island island unto itself. They’re very proud of who they are, and that’s very much where she’s coming from.”

Director F Gary Gray said: “We talked about leopard print, and going the opposite way of what you would expect.

“The scene in the ambulance is really funny. Jason Statham is one of the toughest guys on planet Earth… being smacked my his mom!

“We’ve all been through our moms guilting us into doing stuff we don’t wanna do.”

Mirren added cheekily: “All mothers do that, don’t they?”

Fast 8, also known as The Fate of the Furious, was released earlier this year and grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide.

It set the record for the highest-grossing opening of all time with a $532 million launch, beating Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

A sequel is set for 2020, although stars Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Tyrese Gibson have been squabbling over its delay.

Fast and Furious 8 is available now on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray™ and DVD, from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment (UK).
