Chelsea news: Conte does not trust Batshuayi, Tammy Abraham not ready – Julien Laurens

Batshuayi is the only fit striker in the Chelsea squad, with Alvaro Morata on his way back from a hamstring injury.

However, the Belgian has struggled in Morata’s absence, especially in the shock 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Abraham is currently on loan at Swansea and has scored four goals in eight Premier League games for Paul Clement’s side.

Laurens does not think recalling Abraham would solve Conte’s striker issue and says they should have signed another forward in the summer transfer window.

“I’m not sure Tammy Abraham is more ready than Michy Batshuayi,” he told ESPN FC.

“He has worked under Antonio Conte for a bit more than a season.

“But what’s true is that Conte doesn’t trust Batshuayi and Batshuayi is not doing well enough to be able to replace Alvaro Morata.

“Abraham is another option, maybe a more suited one. But I’m not sure, they should have bought another striker in the summer, that’s for sure.”

Laurens’ colleague and former Venezuela international Alejandro Moreno agrees Chelsea lack depth up front.

“Certainly at the striker position they are not (deep enough),” Moreno said.

“They have issues there and Alvaro Morata being injured and now you put Batshuayi there.

“Whoever thought Batshuayi would be the answer to being the alternative to Alvaro Morata or Diego Costa were sorely mistaken.”
