Weinstein, who has now been fired from his own company, is reported in a US gossip column to have mocked the British actress ten years ago whilst she was filming an early role.
When word reached co-star Emma Thompson, it seems he was finally confronted.
Atwell has, of course, since gone on to find fame as Marvel favourite Peggy Carter; appearing in Captain America and Avengers: Age of Ultron. She’s also been rumoured for Infinity War.
According to Page Six, Weinstein was visiting the set of Brideshead Revisited in 2007 when he started flirting with the “clearly nervous” actress.
He is said to then have sat with the cast and crew at lunch, and warned Atwell over her diet after seeing some footage from the set.

“You look like a fat pig on screen,” it is claimed he said. “Stop eating so much.”
When Atwell confided in Thompson, she is said to have “flipped”.
“Emma called Harvey out for being a misogynist and a bully and really gave him a hard time,” the source revealed.
This matches up with a story Thompson told Swedish chatshow Skavlan.
“There was a wonderful actress in a film I did called Brideshead Revisited. The producer said to her, ‘Will you lose some weight?’ And she was absolutely exquisite,” she recalled.
“I said to them, ‘If you speak to her about this again, on any level, I will leave this picture. You are never to do that.’”
Several stars have come out to lambast Weinstein over the ongoing allegations of shocking behaviour against females in Hollywood.
Dame Judi Dench offered “wholehearted support to those who have spoken out”, saying she was “completely unaware” of any misconduct.
Meryl Streep said: “The behavior is inexcusable, but the abuse of power familiar.
“Each brave voice that is raised, heard and credited by our watchdog media will ultimately change the game.”
Weinstein’s tumultuous week began last Thursday when the New York Times published a damning article detailing various people’s accusations against him.
Today, a statement from his company said: “In light of new information about misconduct by Harvey Weinstein that has emerged in the past few days, the directors of The Weinstein Company — Robert Weinstein, Lance Maerov, Richard Koenigsberg, and Tarak Ben Ammar — have determined, and have informed Harvey Weinstein, that his employment with The Weinstein Company is terminated, effective immediately.”
His lawyer Lisa Bloom told the BBC last week Mr Weinstein denies many of the New York Times’ allegations against him, describing them as “patently false”.
The lawyer said: “He has acknowledged mistakes he has made. He is reading books and going to therapy. He is an old dinosaur learning new ways.”
